The reasons we don’t design the kits to connect directly to mains power include:
- As the target audience for the kits includes minors, it is not considered to be good practice to encourage minors to be working with mains voltages due to the safety considerations.
- Using mains voltage inside the devices would result in people troubleshooting with live mains voltages present in the device. This is a safety hazard.
- As the devices are are low voltage, they are not as heavily regulated as they would be if they operated on mains voltages.
- As all the devices have bridge rectifiers on the power input stage, it is easy for a licensed electrician to convert the devices to run on mains power if required.
